How toHow You Can Make A Rustic Console Like This
29 steps
Make the top by running your 2x6’s through the jointer, planer, and table saw
1
Mark where the biscuits will go
2
At the marks use the biscuit joiner to make slots
3
Put the biscuits in the slots, glue, then clamp the boards together
4
While that dries start the base by breaking down your 2x4’s into rough lengths
5
Make the boards have a flat bottom on the jointer
6
Give them a flat edge by running the bottom against the fence
7
Run them through the planer to desired thickness (flat side down)
8
Put the new edge against the table saw’s fence and rip to desired width
9
Place a stop block & cut the legs to final lengths on the mitre saw
10
Same for the stretchers and supports
11
Break out the Kreg jig and make pocket holes
12
Use pocket or deck screws to secure stretchers to legs
13
Secure the supports to the front frame the same way
14
Check to make sure everything lines up
15
Hold in place and secure the back w/ deck screws
16
Begin your side X’s by splitting your boards down the middle
17
Clamp in place at desired angle and draw lines at both ends
18
Cut along the lines and check for fit
19
For the 2nd one...hold the same size board against the 1st one & mark inside lines
20
Use a nail gun to attach the X
21
For the bottom shelf, nail 1x4 slats at equal spacing
22
Let’s head back to the top and chisel off the dried glue and sand
23
Bring the base over and put in position
24
Secure base to the top using pocket screws
25
Almost done, just need to square up the top
26
Sand the edges, take a seat, & admire your handiwork. This build is over :)
