Printmaking is an art form that celebrates differences, experimentation, practice and imperfection.

In printmaking, an image is made in one material — for ex., wood, metal or, like here, styrofoam.

This image is called the “master plate” or simply the “plate”.

To make a print, ink is applied to the “plate” with a brayer, foam roller, ink pad or even a brush.

The inked plate is then pressed onto another material (usually paper) to make a duplicate image.

There are many many different ways to make printing plates.

And many different ways to add the ink and press to the paper.
