Choose your plants; some upright, some cascading, some good foliage.
1
Use stones to cover drainage holes in your planter (just so the potting mix doesn’t escape).
2
Add a bed of potting mix to hold your new plants up high - 2-3” is usually good for a window box.
3
Sprinkle in a little slow release organic fertilizer. (Read the packaging for the right amount.)
4
Begin to plant - gently slip the plants out of their nursery pots and set them in place.
5
TIP - tease out any overgrown roots to encourage new growth. Don’t be afraid to slightly break them.
6
Once plants are placed, fill potting mix into any open spaces up to 1/4” from top of the planter.
7
Don’t forget to water the planter well. (And when it’s sunny - water often!)
