Spread buttercream to top of cake and rotate offset spatula to create flat surface

Scrape across top and sides with bench scraper to ensure flat surface

Tint white buttercream with black food gel to get different shades of gray.

Alternate gray and white buttercream on strip of parchment the size of your cake. Cover completely

Wrap parchment around cold cake and smooth sides with fondant smoother. Refrigerate for 10 minutes

Carefully peel off parchment and cover bare areas with more buttercream

Carefully smooth sides with bench scraper - be careful not to scrape off too much of design

Use a sharp knife to cut off top overhang and use bench scraper to smooth over top surface
8
Add finishing touches with edible gold paint and wafer sail (tutorial coming soon!)
