What you’ll need
3” or 4” embroidery hoop
5” X 5” square of fabric
Chalk transfer paper
Pen or pencil
Write or draw your resolution/goal for the new year on a piece of scrap paper.
Put the transfer paper face down on your fabric. Place the design on top and trace.
Once you have transferred your design, place your fabric in the embroidery hoop and tighten!
Cut a length of embroidery floss. Mine measures from the tip of my finger to just past my elbow.
Separate 3 strands of floss.
Thread your needle. Leave one end short. Knotting the end is optional.
Here are some basic stitches you can use for your project!
Backstitch is my go to for lettering and outlining.
Split stitch: Make a stitch. Then, come back through the center and split it.
Chain stitches are fun for borders. There is a separate video that breaks this stitch down.
Satin stitch is simple and used to fill in shapes.
Once your design is complete, trim back your fabric about 1/2” from the hoop.
Glue loose fabric to hoop.
You did it!
