Roll a slab large enough for your project. Cut shapes freehand or using cutters.
1
Cut enough shapes to fill the inside of the container with shapes overlapping slightly.
2
Use a tool to score clay pieces that will be joined. “Paint” the scores areas with slip.
3
Remember to always score, slip, and smooth when joining two pieces of clay.
4
It is important to not let clay pieces fold over the edges of the container or the edge will break.
5
You can use anything with a cool texture to make patterns and designs in your clay slab.
6
Once you have your pattern, place a container upside down on the clay to trace/cut around.
7
Remove the excess clay and pick up the clay slab. Center the slab over the inside of the container.
8
Gently press the slab into the container evenly, letting it ‘slump’ into the shape of the container.
9
You can slump one slab, or multiple slabs in a container to create a dish.
