Our old, beat down, tile-topped dining set needed an update.
1
Remove the screws holding the top to the legs.
2
Lift off and place the old top aside.
3
Give everything a good wash.
4
Apply a generous coat of deglosser/liquid sander to all finished surfaces.
5
Wipe down then paint all surfaces with two primer coats and three lacquer coats.
6
Add distressed areas with an electric sander and seal with polyurethane.

8
Purchase an unfinished butcher block island top. We got ours from Lumber Liquidators.
9
Measure carefully and center the painted legs on your new top.
10
Mark the screw holes.
11
Drill, being careful not to go all the way through your butcher block top.
12
Reuse the screws you removed to secure new top.
13
Add at least two coats of butcher block oil to seal and protect your new table top.
