What you’ll need

Belle Dress Pattern
3yards
Seam Binding (Optional)
2 1/2 yards
Fabric
1-4 spools if using an overlock machine
Thread

Invisible Zipper
“Sandwich” fabric between paper underneath and the pattern pieces on top for smooth cut lines

Prepare pieces for sewing by using pins organizing them before sewing.

Join pieces together using 1/2” seam allowance. You will have 2 layers, outside and lining

Do not join side seams. Optional: Topstitch seams with contrast thread.

Join the shoulders

Repeat step on lining layer

Join outside layer and lining at neckline with 1/4” seam allowance

Turn to right side after neckline is sewn

Press seam to one side. Edge stitch seam allowance on the lining side

Turn to right sides together

Sew armholes with 1/4” seam allowance

Turn to right side, press seam to one side. Edge stitch seam on the lining side as far as you can

Turn to right side through the shoulder straps using a safety pin to help feed it through

The edge stitch will not show and keeps the lining from rolling out and showing

Press flat and trim any threads

Match side seams from outside layer to lining layer

Sew side seams with 1/2” seam allowance

Turn to right side

Turn to right side and set aside

Pin invert box pleats. 5 pleats in the front, 5 in the back with the center back pleat at the seam

Overlock or zigzag pocket raw edges to keep from fraying

Pin pockets in place matching notches at side seams

Sew pockets with 1/2” seam allowance. Overlock or zigzag seam

Sew sides seams together and around pockets 1/2” seam allowance

Overlock or zig zag center back seams, join seam with 1/2” seam allowance starting at notch to hem

With right sides together, join outside bodice layer to skirt

Hand baste stitch zipper to center back with 3/4” seam allowance and then sew with machine

At inside hand sew lining at zipper and waist

Hem Option 1: Sew seam tape to bottom edge and hand sew hem

Hem Option 2: Fold hem 1/2” and 1”, iron, and machine sew hem.

Optional 1/4” double topstitch

Turn right side out and iron as needed

The pattern comes in two lengths, long and short and two shoulder widths.
