Bleached Cotton Muslin

Boil a large pot of water for each color of dye you use. Adding salt will help the dye adhere.
Create your dye (you may follow directions on package). Let cool.
While dye cools, cut the desired size of your batik artwork out of the muslin.
Sketch your design.
Melt a mixture of beeswax and paraffin in an old skillet on approximately 200 degree temp.
Begin applying wax to the muslin to retain the colors of your choosing through the dying process.
Continue dying, rinsing, drying, & waxing. Paint light to dark with your final color being black.
Crinkling the waxed material creates cracks the dye can seep into. This is a trademark of batik.
Be sure to apply wax to the black as well.
Place your batik between newsprint (no more than 3 sheets on top) and iron the wax off.
