Oil Painting involves handling chemicals. Remember to follow all safety rules.

You’ll need a palette to hold your paints. You can buy one or make your own.

You’ll need a palette knife to apply, move and mix paints. They come in various sizes.

You‘ll need tubes of oil paint in various colors.

You’ll need a solvent to thin & clean paint. Keep solvent in a glass jar with lid.

Keep rags for clean up and spills. Remember to dispose of them safely.

You’ll need brushes to apply paint.

Try brushes of various length, size, and shape/type. Each one makes a different brushstroke.

Before painting you’ll need to coat your surface in a ground. Ground protects the surface.

Acrylic gesso is a great ground for beginners.

You will need a surface to oil paint on. You can use canvas, wood panel or heavy paper.

You may chose to use Mediums. Mediums are mixed with paint to change the consistency or drying time.
