How To Decorate A Piñata Cake
Start by cutting a 2” circle out of three layers of 9” cakes. TIP: make sure they’re all centered
Now stack your cake! TIP: use a pastry bag to keep the icing out of the center of the cake
Add sprinkles and candy to the hole in your cake. TIP: the smaller the better; sprinkles work best!
Ice a thin crumb coat out of vanilla buttercream
For an ombré look, start by piping a dark color at the base of your cake
Then, mix in white buttercream with your dark color to make it a tad bit lighter. Pipe that on next
Repeat, making it a tad bit lighter again, and pipe it on
Repeat all the way up the side of the cake
Repeat and cover the top of your cake as well
TIP: For ombré cakes, start with a small amount of dark color or else you’ll have a LOT left over!
After piping on your icing, smooth it out with a scrapper
Mix gold dust and alcohol to create a “paint” and brush onto the top of your cake
Add assorted sprinkles, candy, and piped buttercream in a crescent shape on the top of the cake
Cut open for a delicious surprise!
